Sanctuary Flower Essences

When choosing essences, consider the constitution, interests, desires or challenges of those who will be using them. Sanctuary Flower Essences may be used alone or as a complement to other essences and healing modalities.

The Seed Thoughts represent essential patterns embodied by the flower essences.

The Areas of Affinity are places on the body where the healing energy of the essence is especially nourishing and active.

Sanctuary Flower Essences may be taken orally as well as being used in compresses, body oils, sprays and baths. Sanctuary Flower Essences are preserved with brandy.

Bloodroot
Unfolding in spring from within a single leaf, the pure white Bloodroot flower embodies the vibration of inner balance and spiritualized intelligence. Very helpful for easing in to and deepening  meditative and centered states. Additionally, during times when the mind “secedes” from the body, this flower essence balances energies that are either overly excited or overly cheerless.
SEED THOUGHT:  All is Well

Dandelion    The familiar metamorphosis of the common Dandelion provides a powerful clue to the nature of its essence. Rising seemingly out of nowhere in early spring through late fall, it does not content itself with one form, but moves from sturdy yellow flower to delicate white seed head with surprising speed.

The essence of this flower similarly speaks to issues of transformation, especially when sturdiness gets in the way of emerging delicacy or there is a sense of "stuck" energy. Provides a subtle energetic pathway that facilitates creation and consideration of new thoughts, ideas and methods.
SEED THOUGHT: Change-Ability

Holly     In wintertime, the signature characteristic of undying abundance and generosity in the midst of seeming barrenness is easy to see in American Holly trees as they remain clothed in vivid, sheltering, evergreen leaves and nourish winter creatures with their bright red berries.

Similarly, American Holly flower essence resonates with the vibration of harmony, compassion and loving tolerance for all of creation including ourselves. This flower essence soap is used when energetic barriers express as frustration, alienation or dark thoughts, and also when there is a yearning for love and acceptance.
SEED THOUGHT:  Feel Better Now

Areas of Affinity:   Area on the torso at the base of the neck; shoulders, upper chest and back – the same area where a necklace would lay.

Iris     Associated since early times with the rainbow connection between heaven and earth (Iris was the Greek goddess of the rainbow), the essence of Iris resonates with the vibration of artistic inspiration, inviting spontaneity, imagination, and pleasure in to the creative process. Clears away energetic impediments to free and joyful creative expression. Iris is the flower essence for artists.
SEED THOUGHT:  Muse Alert

Queen Anne's Lace     The essence of the Queen Anne's Lace flower is associated with a holistic and inclusive consciousness. The structure of the flower itself shows countless tiny white flowers joined as if one, around a luminous purple center.

In a similar way, the holistic view sees and appreciates the invisible connections that join all of life together around a luminous Center of Being. This essence works to balance the energies associated with a desire for greater clarity and depth of vision, or when there is a consciousness of fragmentation.
SEED THOUGHT:    Gratitude & Grace

Areas of Affinity: Top of head and extending an arms length above the head, hips and buttocks, lower abdomen.

Smaller Pussy Toes
A native American wildflower, the Smaller Pussy Toes plant is so named because of the resemblance of its fuzzy, white, clustered flowers to cat's paws. In lawns and open fields, huge magic circles of the low growing plants bloom all together over a period of several weeks in spring, creating ground-hugging clouds of white fuzziness.

This remarkable flower essence clears away energetic impediments to relaxation, peace, renewal, inner quiet, contentment and purposeful direction. Balances energies of agitation, irritation and distraction.

Spiderwort    Ghost-buster. For protection from and clearing of psychic toxins. Restlessness.

Star of Bethlehem     The Star of Bethlehem flower heralds early spring with bountiful and hardy colonies of dazzling white flowers. Blooming continuously for weeks, they brave many changes of weather and circumstance, remaining fresh and untouched by fate.

They speak of an inner strength and resilience that is reflected in the association of Star of Bethlehem flower essence with the balancing of abrupt, startling, grievous, hurtful or shocking energies - the kind that pierce, rather than caress.

SEED THOUGHT:  Shock Absorber

Areas of Affinity:
Forehead and back and sides of head, between eyebrows; on the chest about one hands width below collar bone, injuries.

Wild Rose     For stress and pressure that is so intense and long lasting that one capitulates important parts of themselves. For giving up, giving in, loss of strength, when the “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” mentality sets in. Restorative.

This flower essence is made from tough, wild growing, massively fragrant multifloras that bloom buckets of five petaled white flowers in late spring and early summer.

Kitty Lifter        An excellent combination for trauma and stressful times. Helps to restore direction, purpose, strength, peace; clears negativity, grief, irritation and the effects of pressure and shock.

Kitty Lifter was first formulated as a custom formula for a distressed cat in order to help calm the cat's irritable, nervous, confused, desperate and ultimately despondent and exhausted response to severe trauma. The name Kitty Lifter, a silly play on words, is descriptive of the "lifting" effect and the return of good humor.

Kitty Lifter liquid tincture combination stock essence is preserved with brandy and includes the following Sanctuary Flower Essences:

Kind Friend        The development of Kitty Lifter led to the formulation of the Kind Friend Blend. Containing the four Sanctuary Flower Essences found in Kitty Lifter, it is an excellent combination for stress and trauma. However, this essence combo is designed for humans, so it also contains Sanctuary Bloodroot Flower Essence to aid in the spiritualization of thought patterns.

People tend
to experience this combination gratefully, like a visit from a Kind Friend, one whose mere presence strengthens one's own mental clarity, will and determination, purpose and direction; one whose acceptance and generosity of spirit helps us to learn to lighten up, move forward and be ourselves even when daily life is very difficult. Sanctuary Flower Essences Background

Sanctuary Flower Essences are co-created by basically traditional methods from native and introduced plant species. The flowers chosen are from both wild growing (volunteers) and cultivated species and are intuitively selected. Pure and energetic, Sanctuary Essences embody an exceptional vibrancy and potency that is quite noticeable. These qualities are attributable in part to the magical Welsh Mountains area where these essences are made.

One of only two places* on earth where black granite is found in quantity, the Welsh Mountains of Pennsylvania manifest immensely powerful earth based energies that readily magnetize and magnify the presence of the angelic and devic realms. Populated for thousands of years by people who lived in harmony with the land, the Welsh Mountains also hold ancient and deeply ingrained patterns of human / nature / spirit co-operation and co-creation. These patterns and energies actively assist the development of all forms of inspired, profound and holistic consciousness including flower essences and help make Sanctuary Essences both gentle and nurturing and deep reaching and catalytic. Sanctuary Essences are co-created in the big circle garden at the home of Aquila and Rick Little Wing in the Welsh Mountains of Pennsylvania.

"In 1993, after working with pre-made (commercially prepared) flower essences quite happily for many years, one day I came upon a little garden of California Poppies in full bloom. They were so bright and lovely and as I knelt there beside them I was filled with a deep appreciation for the little miracles they were. As the sympathetic attunement between the flowers and myself deepened I became aware that the California Poppies knew all about flower essences and that they were suggesting that they (these particular flowers) were interested in sharing their Light in this way. This was truly the last thing I had expected when I stopped to admire them. However, I did see their wisdom and after obtaining permission from the human owner of the garden to make the essence, got home as fast as I could, grabbed the only object made of clear glass I could find (a drinking glass), some scissors and my book on how to make flower essences. I went back to the California Poppies. Connecting with them again and re-verifying the intent, together the flowers and I co-created California Poppy flower essence. It was great.

That was how it all started. Since that time, my husband Rick has also become involved in making essences. Curiosity and desire to really learn about the flowers propelled us far. At first we just used the essences ourselves. As the beneficence of each essence was revealed, they were gradually introduced to family, friends and clients, whenever it seemed like one of the "Sanctuary" essences was indicated. In 1998, the Sanctuary Essences were offered to the general public through the first Unified Field catalog."

* Where's the other one?   Wales!  Wales was greatly loved by Dr. Bach who as a boy spent school holidays hiking and camping there. Later on, near one of the Welsh mountain rivers, he found the first of the herbal remedies for which he became famous. Then in 1930, Dr. Bach again traveled to Wales where he discovered the sun method of flower essence preparation and defined the principles of flower essence healing.
